Understanding the Kingdom of God in Christ Part 1

Colossians 1:13-14He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

There are different kinds of governments for example democracy, communisms, monarchy (kingdom) etc. Most people are aware of democracy because most countries in the world practice one form of democracy or another. Democracy is stated to be the government of the people by the people for the people. It is through the government that a society is held together and organized. If there is no government then there is no law and where there is no law there is no sin. So in every civilized society there is a form of governing system and in Christ there is also a system of government – monarchical (kingdom) government. Jesus Christ spoke consistently and openly about the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of heaven to help us understand God’s system of Government and blessing. So in Christ Jesus we are in a Kingdom. The bible says we have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

In this piece I will outline the basics of kingdom government. A kingdom is a domain that is ruled over by a king or queen. The following are some essentials of a kingdom: –

A sovereign king and Lord rule over every kingdom. The bible tells us that where the word of a king is there is power and who shall say onto him what are you saying . So in a kingdom the word of the king is supreme.

A Kingdom has it domain or a territory. The bible declares that the earth is the lord’s and the fullness thereof. We have been bought with a price and we are no longer our own and we are to glorify God with our body. In a kingdom the territory and its resources and people are all the personal property of the King.

A Kingdom has a royal covenant otherwise known as constitution; it constitutes the intent of the king for his people as well as containing the benefits and privileges of the kingdom. It is the documented word of the king. The Bible contains God’s covenant, and details of his mind and will for those in Christ Jesus.

A kingdom has citizens. The citizenry are the people that live in a kingdom under the dominion of the king. Citizenship in a kingdom is a privilege and not a right. Once a citizen, some benefit comes with it. The king is obligated to care for and protect the citizens and the sole duty of the citizen is to submit to the king and seek to remain in right standing with him.

Remember we are to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all this things would be added to us besides. When we received Christ Jesus we were made right with God and justified through faith. This opened up heaven’s best to us.
