1 Peter 2:9-10
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
Friends, knowing who you are enables you to determine your ability, prospects and future. It gives you the impetus to make necessary plans and projections for your life. Today, we will explore our identity in Christ.
Adam committed high treason against God and fell. Through the sin of Adam every man born of woman after Adam became sinners and inherited a fallen state. Though you and I were not in the garden and did not personally eat the fruit from the forbidden tree, it is taken that in Adam we all ate of the fruit. Therefore, we all fell in Adam and came short of the glory of God.
But the good news is that Jesus came as the second Adam and through the law of substitution He became the propitiation for our sins. He died and paid for all the sins of humanity. While we did not personally die on the cross, were not buried, and did not personally rise from the dead but through the law of substitution, it is taken by God and known by the devil that through Christ Jesus we have paid in full for all our sins. We have conquered sin, death, the grave and Satan.
So why did God do all these for us? Because He loves us and because He is Love. We all boast of our love for God and sometimes we actually forget that He first loved us. It is our understanding of God’s love for us that gives us an appreciation and activates our true identity. There is nothing you can do that will make God not love you and there is nothing you can do that can make God love you more or less. He actually began to love us before we ever came into the world or knew He existed, before we ever came to know or accept Him.
So start to revel in His love and enjoy divine freedom in Christ. You are a new creation and you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus therefore sin shall no longer have dominion over you. The same Spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead dwells inside of you and quickens your mortal body to the glory of His holy name.
