MAY 30

3 John 1:2, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

Who is the writer of this book? To whom was he writing? John, the apostle was writing to a fellow Christian in the church named Gaius. John said he wished above all things that Gaius may prosper; so also God wishes above all things that you may prosper.

In the Amplified Bible the same scripture reads thus, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers.”  So I asked God what He meant. He answered and said, “Who am I talking to?” “Gaius,” I answered. “Who is Gaius?” He wasn’t just talking to Gaius the body, but Gaius the spirit man.

People normally say they have a spirit, soul and body and many believe it but this statement is wrong. You don’t have a spirit, you are a spirit! There is a difference between having and being something. When somebody dies the body is intact but lifeless because the spirit is the real person. People can look good on the outside but be rotten on the inside. We have both the inner and the outer man.

John was saying in the above scripture that he wishes that your inner man may prosper and your body as well. This means there is spiritual prosperity, physical prosperity as well as soul prosperity, which is equally important. So prosperity is not only financial. Your flesh is just an earthsuit or a covering. The real you is inside and leave your body when you die. John wanted Gaius’ spirit to prosper, then comes health or physical prosperity, then the soul, (mental, emotional) prosperity. Prosperity is in four spheres. There is a fourth aspect – social prosperity.

It is possible to be spiritually prosperous and financially in debt. I’ve met many Christians like that. You also find people who are spiritually prosperous but mentally poor. The biggest problem I find among Christians is that they are not being trained to be mentally alert to take advantage of opportunities. Most Christians believe that the only way they can prosper is when God touches someone to give them something. I’ve seen Pastors shun certain investments because they felt they were putting money in the hands of unbelievers whereas their members could also take advantage of these investment opportunities. If you can keep all the money you have in your pocket, then it is not enough to take you to where you are going. You can’t carry wealth in your wallet.

The first sphere of wealth is spiritual prosperity. Another sphere is financial prosperity; then social prosperity and then soul prosperity, which is focused on your mental alertness. Many Christians want to prosper but they do not even have any idea of their economic environment. We have been chosen to rule financially but without knowledge of the economy it would be impossible for us to go far. We need to wake up and use the whole facets of our mind to produce results for us. Some Christians are waiting for people to come and bless them. We must engage in intelligible warfare. Christians shouldn’t be social derelicts. Engage your mind by reading books and gathering relevant information.

The biggest problem of some Christians is that they don’t think. They are of the opinion that the Holy Ghost has to do the thinking for them! After you have prayed you need to spend time to think. You need to be able to communicate effectively anywhere you find yourself. You must be mentally sound.

You need to also have the word of God constantly in you.  What food is to the body, so is the word of God to your spirit. As spiritual as I am if I stop reading, meditating and following God’s word my guard will fall. If your guard is down then you are vulnerable. So develop yourself to constantly feed on the word of God.

The above scripture also spoke about bodily prosperity, being in health. God is not planning for you to prosper in one way, while struggling in others. God wants your health to be sound because it is so essential.

Social prosperity is an additional sphere in which everyone loves you and wants to be associated with you. These days people do not only get employed based on their Intelligence Quotient (IQ) but also on their Emotional Quotient (EQ).

According to Deuteronomy 8:18, God gives you power to go and get wealth. But you need to use social prosperity to receive from men. Men are supposed to bring to your bosom but bad behaviour and character has the tendency to drive them away. It is important that after you plant your seed you must have a good track record. Behave well; you must have integrity and be trustworthy. Be open and clear about your business interests. You’re blocking a lot of blessings by being fraudulent. Remember you reap whatever you sow. Always appreciate others all the time. You cannot live your life by yourself and change the world. These are the things that open the doors to blessings. We need to start using our God given initiative.

How do you relate with people? Some Christians are social derelicts, an eyesore to the kingdom. Some misrepresent Jesus in their character and appearances. This shouldn’t be so. You must go for social prosperity. Show people that you know what you are doing, instead of looking and sounding as if you lack direction and are a misfit. You should learn how to start and maintain a good conversation. Jesus had social prosperity, which was why the Pharisees and Sadducees wondered at his wisdom and expressions.

Prosperity is your heritage. People should be interested in associating with you because you carry Christ. The anointing should be so evident on you that when people see you they see God at work.  The favour of God makes you achieve speedily what others couldn’t or had to take time to achieve. Remember there’s always a better way.

The road to prosperity is easy if you can align yourself with the principle of seedtime and harvest. It is only a lunatic that will do things the same way and expect a different result. There may be something you’re not doing right, if so be ready to make the necessary adjustments. I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper!

Ecclesiastes 9:14-18 tells us about a poor man who by his wisdom (mental prosperity) delivered his city from the enemy. At the end of the day his wisdom was despised and forgotten. Have you ever done something significant only to be forgotten and no one remembers? Wisdom is good with an inheritance. When one area of your life is off target all the other area would suffer. That’s why the poor wise man was not remembered – He was wise but poor.

How many times have you given out ideas only for you not to be remembered? It’s time for a change. So mental prosperity or financial prosperity or spiritual prosperity or social prosperity singularly is not enough but together they make you who God wants you to be. Social prosperity may bring you before kings but mental prosperity will enable you to interact intelligibly with them. Spiritual prosperity will defend you against the enemy in the days of evil when they want to take that opportunity from you, physical prosperity will enable you show up and be consistent where others grow weary and fall away. It’s a combination of all of these.

Have you ever been to a place where you were asked what you wanted and your mind went blank? Sometime later you realized that was an opportunity? But when all the spheres of prosperity are working in your life you will begin to take advantage of opportunities. Total life prosperity is what I’m talking about. Total prosperity gives you preference over others who appear to be better than you. You need to know that God has favoured you and put you in a position for you to shine. Take note that this position might be in the midst of unbelievers so do not despise it.
