The Works of the Holy Spirit Part 1

John 14:26“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

Today, we will explore, as much as possible, the Person of the Holy Spirit and His works in the life of a Christian. Note that I said “PERSON,” not thing or force. It is vital for you to know that the Holy Spirit is a person and should be related to as such. For example if you treat a human being like an animal you will get an unfavourable response. In like manner, if you treat the Holy Spirit wrongly He will be grieved and He might leave. Remember the story of Samson? After continuously disregarding the presence of God in his life, the Spirit of God left until such a time when Samson returned to God.

One of the works of the Holy Spirit is to comfort and encourage us in times and situations that are unfavourable. I did not say He is our sympathiser; I said He is our comforter. He takes your discomfort and gives you comfort in its place. Someone may sympathise with you but they still have to leave you to solve your problems. But in the case of the Holy Spirit, He will help you to solve your problems. He is always there and even when you are comfortable He makes you more comfortable.

Another work of the Holy Spirit is to teach and to help us develop in all things. These include spiritual, physical, mental, social and every aspect of life. He will teach you how to go about getting a husband, wife, jobs, contracts etc. I remember once the Lord gave me a project to carry out and it required constant financing. One day while I was meditating He taught me how to consistently get funds to carry out the assignment and ever since the funds have never ceased to come because the Great Teacher is teaching me. So, you need to see the Holy Spirit as your teacher, as the one who imparts you with working and proof producing knowledge in every area of life. Please be aware that the Holy Spirit is smarter than the smartest in any field. He is the very Spirit of the El Shaddai, the all-sufficient God.

The Holy Spirit also gives you a retentive memory. You will not be forgetful, you will always be resourceful. It is part of His job to ensure that you are never dumb founded or suffer memory loss. He will bring all things that Jesus has been saying to you and if you can remember what God says then you will be remembered by heaven. No one that remembers God can be forgotten by God. Remember, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.”
