Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
We defined purpose as the original intent. The pre-determined reason for the existence of a thing. This week we will be exploring the value purpose. We will find out the importance of purpose. It is said that the greatest tragedy in life is not death but a life without a reason. It is dangerous to be alive and not knowing why you were given life. Some of the value purpose is as follow:
To avoid abuse – the word abuse came from two words abnormal – use. For example when a drug is prescribed by a doctor in the hospital, it is called medicine but when it is distributed on the street by drug dealers it is called drug abuse. It is the same thing but in the wrong hands and place.
Acts 26:16 – But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen , and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; Prior to this vision Paul was busy and persecuting Christians and thinking he was doing the will of God. But he was outside of God’s purpose for his life and he was actually attacking the God intends to be serving and was abusing his own destiny. But God in his mercy corrected him and showed him his purpose. And Paul later said after he changed his course of life and followed God’s revealed plan for His life. Act 29:19 – Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision.
Through the discovery of God’s purpose for his life and walking in it, Paul became the most celebrated apostle and wrote over two thirds of the New Testament. When you discover your purpose and walk in it, your true use and essence begin to emerge.
In order to be fulfilled – 1 Corinthians 9:16 – For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!
To be fulfilled means to be satisfied. To accomplish what is intended. Not all success is good because not all success fulfils. Using an extreme case, for example an assassin, robber, or terrorist could have succeeded in perpetrating their predetermined intent but it does not mean their success would culminate in divine fulfilment. I have met people that have worked in top jobs and after they retired they actually discovered their purpose. They said they have been more fulfilled in their purpose than in their former jobs. They are having the time of their life. Please do not confuse monetary or positional success with fulfilment of purpose. I say to people when you walk in your purpose all this things will be added to you; wealth, health, and fulfilment. Abraham found the purpose of God for His life at the age of 75 and he became the first man called very rich in the bible. So walking in purpose does not deprive you of financial success but it actually guarantees true and full success. But you have to put satisfaction first in defining success. Is God satisfied with my performance and what I am doing and am I at peace with my performance? Kenneth Hagin said; when we meet God face to face, one of the questions he would ask would be, did I fulfil my plans or did you fulfil your plans. Friend I want to fulfil God’s plan for my life.
To have relevance in this life and in eternity– 2 Timothy 4:6-8 – For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day…
Accepting Jesus Christ guarantees us heaven and eternal life. Living a life of purpose guarantees rewards in this life and in eternity. There is a reward for doing the will of God now and there are also eternal dividends. God’s rewards system is based on how much you walk in His original intent for you. There is a pre-determined path for all of us and we are to discover it and walk in it. Living life outside of God’s purpose for you will only earn you earthly success at best but no spiritual value or gain. Yes, it is possible to gain the whole world and lose out on great heavenly reward. Stop and think, are you doing what counts before God?
To be in God’s will and establish the rule of God on earth – 1 John 3:8 -…..For this purpose the Son of God was manifested , that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Every purpose of God culminates in eradicating the works of the devil and establishing God’s kingdom because every of God’s purpose carries his power and presence. When God appoints He anoints. Every divine purpose is a calling/vocation and every calling is a high call and commands heaven’s backing. The more we walk in God’s purpose, the more we see the power of God being made invested in our day to day life. In Mark 16:20 the bible says and they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. Your purpose may be like that of Joseph serving in the house of Potiphar, but God will shine on you and prosper you and your employer will notice the hand of God on your life. And you will become a world deliverer. Your purpose may be like that of Esther that got married to a King and delivers the nation of Israel. God wants to use you and not abuse you. He wants to establish His purpose on earth through you, so get up and start living a life of purpose.
To have lasting victory and success – Isaiah 46:10 – Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’
Isaiah 46:10 – Making clear from the first what is to come, and from past times the things which have not so far come about; saying, My purpose is fixed, and I will do all my pleasure;
Malachi 3:6 – “For I am the Lord, I do not change; therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
God is from everlasting to everlasting so His purpose has a seal of permanence. Ignorance of purpose is not lack of purpose but a delay in its fulfilment. Whenever the purpose is discovered, it begins to unfold. No matter the opposition, if you stick with God’s purpose for your life, you will outlast and reign over the opposition
