The Value of Intentionality and Faith Declaration

Galatians 6:7 – Make no mistake about this: You can never make a fool out of God. Whatever you plant is what you’ll harvest.

The word intentionality is gotten from the word intent. Some of the definitions of intent are purpose, aim, a determination to perform a particular act or to act in a particular manner for a specific reason; an aim or design, a resolution to use a certain means to reach an end. To walk in the grace of God, you have to be intentional. You have to have purpose in your heart in order to walk and enjoy the grace that Jesus Christ has provided for you. While the grace of God is unmerited, it has to be received to be enjoyed. For example, sunlight is one of the free gifts of God but we have to position ourselves to enjoy its benefits. So also, we need to make a decision of quality to apply ourselves to God’s grace. The following are some examples of ways to show intentionality in enjoying unmerited favour:-

Be friendly and walk in peace with people A man who has friends must himself be friendly. God will use people to bring you favour so don’t make enemies with people. As much as it is within your power, be at peace with people.

Be a person of integrity and honest character – If people cannot trust you, they will be reluctant to favour you or recommend you. Dishonesty frustrates the grace of God. When they were selecting deacons in the New Testament church, one of the requirements was honesty. It is said that honesty is the best policy, so be intentionally honest.

Be diligent and avoid eye service – Knowing that we are under God’s grace should encourage us to conduct our business and job diligently. We should work as onto God and please Him. Service from the heart provokes favour but eye service blocks it. Ephesians 6:5-8 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eye service, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service , as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth , the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free’.

Be conscious of who you are and whose you are – We must know and value the grace of God on our lives and we should never take it for granted. We should carry and wear God’s grace well. We should always be conscious and remember the price that has been paid for our redemption and we would place a great value on it. Remember, onto whom much is given, much is expected.

In conclusion, I encourage you to intentionally proclaim God’s favour over your life everyday and expect the favour of God. Our words rule us and we become what we say. It is therefore important for us to intentionally confess and declare favour over our lives everyday. One of the instructions God gave the children of Israel was that they should keep his Word before their eyes and in their mouths day and night. God has not changed, therefore I encourage you to keep your declaration and expectation of favour at the highest level and you will experience unprecedented manifestation of God’s grace in your life.
