The things that God has freely and richly given to us

1Corinthians 2:12We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

Today, I will enumerate some of the things that have been freely and richly given to us by God. Why? So that you and I may enjoy them and be witnesses of His goodness to our world. The purpose of this study is to help you appreciate how much God loves and values you and your well-being. You are somebody greatly loved and valued by the Almighty God.

A gift speaks of the thoughts of the giver about the recipient. Use the knowledge of the giving nature of God towards you and the nature of the gift to re-evaluate your worth to God and in the larger scheme of things. Re-evaluate your God given worth in Christ Jesus and see your faith get stronger and more productive.

It is important you know that gifts have to be received with the right attitude. So after you know the gift that has been freely given to you, you will have to possess the right attitude to receive and then enjoy it to the pleasure of the giver; in this case, to the pleasure of God. The Bible says God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants. The process is as follows: know the free gifts, receive them by faith, have a thankful attitude and then enjoy them to the full.

Some of the free gifts of God to us are as follows:

His everlasting Love

1 John 4:8, 19 – He who does not love does not know God, for God is love… We love him, because he loved us first.

The first gift God ever gave to mankind was and is still His unconditional and everlasting Love. God cannot but love because He is Love. The key to living a life of victorious and strong Christian faith is understanding the depth of God’s love for you. Remember faith works by love. All through the Bible and from our day-to-day experience we can see the proof of God’s Love for us. Jeremiah 31:3 – The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with loving-kindness I have drawn you.”

Jesus Christ

Our Lord Jesus Christ is heaven’s best gift to us. We did not and cannot pay for the substitutionary role He took for us. God gave Him away for us. John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Jesus while talking with the Samaritan women in John 4:10, called Himself the gift of God. The gift you are given also reveals your worth to the giver. For God to give us Jesus means we are worth more than we can ever imagine. Never let anyone tell you that you are worthless.

Eternal Life

Every human being deserved hell but God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, brought us eternal life by His blood. He paid with His life and we got the gift of eternal life freely. Eternal life is not free; Jesus paid for it but it is free to and for us because He gave it as a gift to us. Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Eternal life is God’s kind of life and it is resident in each child of God right now – not in the future but right now and we need to let that life out. Declare it every day that you have eternal life: God’s kind of life is resident in your human spirit and you should let it out in Jesus’ name.

Through Jesus Christ we have the gift of righteousness i.e. right standing with God. Because of the gift of righteousness we can now enter into the presence of God with freedom of expression without any sense of guilt or shame. Righteousness in the Kingdom is not by works but a gift. Friend, without righteousness we cannot enjoy God’s blessings and favour because we will be unqualified to stand in His presence but thank God, through the gift of righteousness, we can come before Him as if we never committed a single sin.

The Holy Spirit and His Gifts

We have the gift of the person of the Holy Spirit and His manifestations (gifts) resident inside us. The Holy Spirit is within us and is active in us through His gifts at work in us and through us. The Holy Spirit is available to all who have received Jesus Christ as their Lord and saviour. We did not do anything to merit the Holy Spirit and His gifts; God blessed us with this great person as a gift to enable us live a victorious Christian lives. Luke 11:13 – If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”. John 20:22 – And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit”.

Authority over the devil

Friend, kingdom comes by power. God has given every believer authority over the opposition. We have absolute authority over the devil. Jesus says we will do greater works than Him. You may say I already know these things. Agreed, but how much of it have you truly been using to live and enjoy life? There is no use having a gift and not enjoying it. Begin to enjoy your life by using the authority you have. Luke 4:19 – Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

The call of God into ministry

I laugh when people in ministry make it look as if they were called by qualification. Friend, every call of God to ministry is great and every great call is a grace call. No one merits it, it is a gift and a great privilege to be called and used by God. Romans 11:29 – For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.
