Luke 15:19 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.
Point number 6 – Prayer requires humility.
He went back to the father in humility, he did not for once lose the sense of his relationship with the father. He knew he is a son but chose to assume the form of a servant in humble adoration and submission to the father just like Jesus did as recorded Philippians 2:5. Prayer must be done in humility, that is why people of old assume a humble position even Jesus did when he was in the garden of Gesthemane. When you pray, you need to humble yourself before God and allow his will to prevail, prayer should be a request and not to dish out instructions on what you want done. Yes! You can take authority over situations and things but not over God. Your request to him must be submitted on the platform of your submission to his son and his will and that is why Jesus said whatever you ask the father in my name and not your name. Prayer is not a time to roll out your resume about what you have done, nor a time to prove to God what you deserve based on what you have done. No! It is not by qualification but by His grace and his mercies. Romans 9:16 ‘not of him that wills, nor him that runs but God that shows mercy. Have mercy Lord!’
Point number 7: The character of the father.
Whenever we return to the place of prayer you will find that the father has all the time been waiting, no matter how long you’ve kept away. The moment you approach his throne, you will feel again the warmth, compassion and Love. This is the feeling that makes us cry and express emotions at this time knowing even when we abandon him he still loves us still and ever waiting for our return to his secret place. He has loved us with an everlasting love and nothing can change that, not even our behaviour. One would have thought the father will meet the son with sharp rebuke but what we failed to understand is that He misses us when we stray away, he enjoys our fellowship more than we do and he his love for us is beyond offence. Don’t ever run away from his presence, don’t let your sins push you away from him rather let it push you to him in prayer. You don’t need a clean up to meet him, just go and let him clean you up and deck you up with his glory.
Point number 8: No other opinion matters to God.
The father does not consult before he attends to the son. He does not need a second opinion to forgive you. He does not require the input from other to answer you. Regardless of what the older brother thinks, the father’s love is everlasting. Men may think your case is beyond redemption but not God, men may think you don’t deserve to be forgiven but not God. Men may think you don’t deserve to be blessed or qualify for the blessing but not God, he qualified you without qualification, his hands are still stretched forth still waiting for the day you will come home, so make a move now and decide to return to your father.
