The Benefits of Our Redemption through Christ – Part 1
Luke 4:18 – The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Galatians 3:13-14Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. The above scripture in Galatians stated that we have been redeemed from the curse of the law. The question is what is the law and what is the curse of the law? The law is the Pentateuch i.e. the first five books of the Bible. The curse of the law is the consequence and punishment that comes from breaking these laws. The curse of the law is found in Deuteronomy 28:15-68. They are in three groups, the curse of poverty, the curse of sickness and the curse of spiritual death. Christ has redeemed us from all of these. The blessing of Christ has swallowed and dissolved them from being operational in our lives.Redeemed from Spiritual deathThere are different types of deaths mentioned in the Bible. They include physical death, spiritual death and the death in the lake of fire (second death). Spiritual death is the death that lays hold on the spirit of man rather than his body. This was what happened when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. Their bodies did not die immediately but their spirits died, they lost the divine connection they had with God. They got connected with the devil. In other words, the devil became their father and they took up his nature. That is why good works don’t make a man godly, it is being born again that connects man back to God. Please be aware that physical death comes as a result of spiritual death. When God created man, he never planned for man to taste death of any kind.
This is the reason why many find it difficult and impossible to stop the cycle of sin because they have the nature of sin in them. But Christ has redeemed us from the curse of spiritual death i.e. connection to the devil and his nature. We now have the nature and life of God in Christ. But we have to know it by revelation, believe it and enforce it. That is why Apostle Paul said sin shall not have dominion over you. You are now the righteousness of God in Christ. Yes you are, through the finished work of Christ.
