The Anointing for Greatness, Why?

Genesis 12:1-4

Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

Genesis 26:1-6,12-14

1 There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar. 2 Then the Lord appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. 3 Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. 4 And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; 5 because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.” 6 So Isaac dwelt in Gerar.

12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. 13 The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; 14 for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him.

Deuteronomy 28:1-3

“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God: Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.

It is said that the purpose of a thing is in the heart of the manufacturer. It was God’s decision to make us great. Today, we will explore some of the reasons why He wants us to be great.

God wants you to be great because He wants a family, He wants to have relationship with us and for us to have a very good relationship with Him, He wants us to be on His level. He wants us to be like Him not only in purity but also in greatness. 2 Peter 1:3-4 states that, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

In the above scriptures in Genesis, God effectively told Abraham and Isaac that He would make them great as a reward of obedience. God does not treat everybody the same. Although He gave us all the same promises, the treatment you get from Him is dependent on how you value His instructions.

While all the children of God are potentially great not all the children of God actually rise up to greatness.

Another reason why God wants us to be great is so that all the families of the earth will be blessed. The whole earth lies in wickedness and under the curse. But we are champions of God’s blessings. The definition of blessing includes divine empowerment to prosper. God blessed us so that we can become a blessing. He made us great so that we can make others great. That means your lack of greatness will hold many families back from entering into greatness. God is waiting for us to champion His cause of greatness among the families of the earth. This is a huge responsibility. It means that God has entrusted the development of the human race to us. It is said historically that wherever prayer and the word of God is preached there is always an explosion of development and civilisation. The world is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God. It is your greatness that would make your family, your street, your office, your town, your city, your local government and your country great.

When Abraham entered into the land that God took him to greatness began, when Isaac entered Gerar he brought greatness to the region, when Joseph entered the house of Potiphar he brought greatness. In each case the greatness they carried was felt by the people around them and it changed their environment. This month I am calling the greatness in you to shine and come forth.

Another reason why God wants you to be great is to distinguish his covenant people from the rest. To separate those that serve Him from those that are not serving Him. Source determines size. He wants us to be great to make serving God attractive and draw people to Him. He wants to display His justice among the people. God wants to re-establish His kingdom on earth and put His children and citizens in control. Therefore He empowers us through the greatness of His might so that we rule and reign and stop the operations of the devil.

Greatness is not only our birthright, it is our assignment. Either you are a painter, student, teacher, stay at home mother or father, an engineer, Pastor, whatever your profession or career may be, you are destined to be very great in your field of operation. God wants you to set the pace and standard that others may follow.
