Roadblocks to Greatness Part 1

Ephesians 1:19-21

…and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

On this study of greatness, it is important to expose to you, some of the roadblocks that the enemy can put up to stop you from enjoying greatness and how to deal with them. The roadblocks are as follows:

This is the greatest barrier to being all that you are created to be. Many Christians are not aware that they have a covenant of greatness in Christ. They don’t know that they are destined to be great and as a result of this ignorance, they are living a low life. An example is the story of the beggar and the rich man; although when he died he was translated to the bosom of Abraham, while he was on earth, he was living in poverty and pain. The reason is in Luke 16:19 – 21 – There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day. And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores” (emphasis added). Note, the Bible says that Lazarus, the beggar had one desire – to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. Obviously, he was ignorant of the blessings of Abraham that belonged to him because after he died, he was taken to the bosom of Abraham. Therefore, in this case, his ignorance robbed him of his greatness. The cure to this is to study and find out what belongs to you in Christ and hold fast to it.

The Acronym of fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. Fear paralyses its victims but faith energises its recipients. The devil specialises in telling the ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’. God specialises in showing you the possibilities of greatness. Abraham, on his way to greatness, became afraid of being killed on the account of his beautiful wife so devised his own way of escape. He was afraid but he never quit or stopped moving forward. On your path to greatness, there will be fearful things but don’t succumb to fear. Fill yourself with courage and consciousness of the ability of God. Every time fear visits me, I speak scriptures aloud until the fear is totally gone. Sometimes it goes immediately and other times, the symptoms persist for days, depending on the level of greatness that I am approaching.

Impatience and doubt

Another roadblock in our path to greatness is impatience and doubt. Sometimes we want to help God fix our problems because in our eyes, it appears that He is too slow. Remember that if God is your source, then you have to respect His ways and timing. We cannot lose our patience or cool with God. Some years back, when I was becoming impatient with God on a particular breakthrough that I was expecting, He cautioned me by saying, “The devil cannot outrun me and cannot be faster than me.” Having this in mind, I became patient and things worked out. If you become impatient, then you start having second thoughts and devising different options. The devil specialises in drawing people away from God’s Word and confusing them. He tempts people to look away from God’s promises and makes them wander away in their minds. He makes them see options that appear better than God’s option. Immediately, you lose focus of God’s promises; the devil steals your blessing and leaves you with emptiness. In Jesus name, your greatness will not be exchanged with shame. The cure to this roadblock is to stand fast on God’s Word without compromising.
