Rewards of Honour Part 1

1 Timothy 1:17Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the Word and doctrine (emphasis added).

What is a reward? A reward is defined as something given or received in return or recompense for service, merit, hardship, etc. It may consist of money, goods or acts of kindness. It is the fruit of a person’s labour. A reward can also be punishment for an evil done.

The Bible instructs us to give double honour to the man of God who brings us the Word of God. The greatest thing anyone can do for you is to bring you into a deeper walk with God. The closer you are to God, the better life becomes for you and the more blessings that you will enjoy. The way to having a deeper walk with God is through the understanding of His Word and His ways. The way to achieving that, is by being taught by the anointed men and women that God sends to us.

In light of the above, God instructs us to give double honour to those that teach us His Word. The Bible also says that they would give account of us before God and that God takes their report of us seriously. To dishonour these people therefore, would result in you losing some rewards. I am not saying that the teachers of the Word should abuse you and dishonour you but that you should do your part and let God reward you.

I am of the opinion that you should not stay in an abusive ministry. An abusive ministry is any ministry that does not feed you with the Word, does not improve your relationship with God and does not enhance your life. I believe that this ministry is doing all of the above and more. One of the ways to fast track your progress and success in life is by honouring your fellow man of God because you get double reward for giving them double honour. You cannot out-give God. He will bless you.

Friend, walking in honour or dishonour has great consequence in this life and in the life to come. I encourage you to review your lifestyle with regard to honour and make necessary adjustments where required. You will reap unprecedented rewards in your life. God has ordained you for honour but you need to take corresponding steps to provoke the rewards.
