1 Samuel 17:45

Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

Psalms 20:7-8

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God, They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.

Our Lord Jesus received a more excellent name that is higher than all other names, the mention of which makes all situations and creatures to bow. He received the name for us who are the heirs of salvation. Christ will not need his own name to perform miracles but we do. He won the battle and gave us the crown of victory by conferring on us the authority to use his name whenever we are confronted with any situation.

The devil and his cohorts know him as the man that came and humiliated them in their own territory in hell according to Col 2:15. So whenever you mention the Name of Jesus Christ, they immediately remember his victory over them and are left with no choice but to stand up and bow for the champion. It suffices to know that His name has been in use both before his birth and during his time on earth. He said to the Jews in John 8:58 ‘Before Abraham was, I am’. David testified of him in Ps 110:1 ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right side until I make your enemies thy footstool’. Paul the apostle in Heb 1:13 and Luke in Acts 2: 34-35 made it clear that the Lord David referred to in this scripture is our Lord Jesus, same with so many other references in the book of psalms.

This same David prophetically confronted Goliath using the name of the Lord according to the above scripture. I come to you in the name of The Lord of Host. Goliath the Giant couldn’t have died because a small pebble hit him? No! He was struck by something greater and mightier; he was struck by The Rock Himself. The Rock of offence ( Rom 9:33) The Stone the builders rejected, who became the chief corner stone, The rock of ages, the stumbling stone in Zion (1 peter 2:8). This is He who Goliath confronted when David came against him in the name of the Lord.

Before the confrontation, David had the choice of using Saul’s armor but rather he settled for his sling, and went into the brooks to gather 5 smooth stones, why 5? The name of the Lord was described with Five appellations in the book of Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. So David prophetically picked up the names of the Lord and confronted Goliath in the name of the Lord of Host and what happened, he only had to use one name.

His name is all you need to win all your battles in Life, peradventure you have challenges and giants confronting you day by day, yours may be a besetting sin that has refused to leave but constantly challenging you. Friend it’s not by power nor by might, you cannot win the battle of life on your own, Jesus gave you the power and the authority to use His name and all you need is just to call on him, the bible says as many as call on the name of the Lord shall be saved, Your salvation is in His name, your healing is in His name, your prosperity is in His name and your victory is in His name. So call now while you can and he will show up for you.
