Luke 10:38 to 11:23

Jesus Christ and his disciples stopped at a village and were welcomed at the house of a woman named Martha whose sister is Mary. Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to his words, while Martha was distracted with catering for all.
Annoyed, Martha approaches Jesus, asking if he cared that her sister had left her to fix the meal alone. She told Jesus to order Mary to help her with the preparations. Jesus responded by telling Martha that it is not the many things she is worried about that matter, but the needful thing Mary had chosen which could never be taken from her.
While Jesus was praying in a certain place, one of his disciples asked him to teach them how to pray. Jesus told them to start their prayer by acknowledging God, after which they ask for provision, then forgiveness of sins even as they forgive others. Finally, that they may not be led into temptation.
Jesus further gives an illustration to buttress his next teaching which urges them to ask and receive, seek and find, knock and the door will be opened. He further went on to make a comparison between a father who will only give good gifts to his children, and our father in heaven who will give the Holy spirit to all who ask.
Jesus having driven out a mute demon from a man, who spoke after the demon had left, was accused of using the powers of Beelzebul, the prince of demons. Jesus responded to that in his usual wise way, by pointing out that a house divided against itself will be destroyed, hence his proof that he does not do the miraculous in the name of Beelzebul, but by the finger of God, and as such the kingdom of God is therefore upon the people.
Jesus went on to illustrate how a strong man can be over powered and defeated by a stronger man even if he is fully armed. He states that whoever is not for Him nor gathers with Him are against Him and as such scatters.

Life application
The story of Martha and Mary teaches us that in actual fact, both the Martha and Mary ministries are important and of great value, however making Jesus, His word and His ministry first should always be the priority of every believer.
The above passage also teaches us the importance of knowing how to esteem our prayer, how to approach the throne of Grace and what to say.
Finally, if you belong to ‘Camp Jesus’ and have unshakeable faith in him, you can overcome any obstacle or challenge. Nothing shall be impossible to you.

Personal Declaration
As I place Jesus at the top of my priorities, His glory shall be reflected in my life in Jesus Name.

Reading – Luke 10:38 to 11:23

At the Home of Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Jesus’ Teaching on Prayer

11 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

He said to them, “When you pray, say:

hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.[c]
Give us each day our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.[d]
And lead us not into temptation.[e]’”

Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity[f] he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for[g] a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Jesus and Beelzebul

14 Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed. 15 But some of them said, “By Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he is driving out demons.” 16 Others tested him by asking for a sign from heaven.

17 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. 18 If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? I say this because you claim that I drive out demons by Beelzebul. 19 Now if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your followers drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 20 But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

21 “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. 22 But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up his plunder.

23 “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
