Intimacy with God – Secret to Flowing In the Glory
Psalm 42:1
As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
When I was in elementary school, one of the prayers we said at the end of the school day was:
Day by day, dear Lord of Thee,
Three things I pray;
To see Thee more clearly,
Love Thee more dearly,
Follow Thee more nearly,
Day by day.
I don’t know who wrote it but it describes the kind of attitude of heart we should possess in order to walk in the fullness of God’s glory. We need intimacy with God in order to manifest His glory in uncommon measure. Please understand that there is a difference between relationship and intimacy: relationship is the foundation but intimacy is the core.
To be intimate means to have a close, private and personal level of relationship with someone; to have extensive detailed knowledge of them. This is what the Bible meant by saying the people of Israel knew the works of God but only Moses knew the ways of God. It takes intimacy to know the ways of God. Please be aware that intimacy is deliberate and intentional. You don’t become intimate with someone by accident, it happens by decision and choice.
In other words, if you want to have intimacy with God you have a decision to make. Furthermore you should be aware that intimacy demands sacrifice. You have to be ready to give up something to go up in life. In Mark 1:35 the Bible says, “a great while before dawn Jesus went to a solitary place to spend time with God.” One would have thought that because He is the Son of God He didn’t need to spend time with God. However that’s not the case because the proof of intimacy is spending quality time in fellowship with the Father to receive from Him. Therefore sacrifice is a necessary ingredient in building intimacy.
Another factor in building intimacy in the pursuit of glory is consistency and singleness of heart. God is always looking for people whose hearts yearn for Him. I have come to the conclusion that consistency is a major key in order to break into a new realm of glory. God will not have anything to do with a double-minded, double-tongued person because He deems them as unstable. The Bible even went as far as to say in James 1 that such a person will not get anything from God.
Do you want to manifest the glory of God? If your answer is yes then embark on building a strong intimacy with God.
In conclusion let’s do a recap on the subject of Glory:
The glory of God is otherwise known as the ‘splendour, favour, nobility, honour, promotion of God’.
The glory of God is designed for man. God did all the work and gave man the benefits. This is a practical display of the grace of God.
Awareness of the glory triggers its effects.
The glory of God does not leave man, men leave the glory.
When you are careless with the glory you suffer great losses.
The glory has levels.
Intimacy is required to move onto a higher level of GLORY.
