Philippians 2:6-11
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
In the last few weeks we have found that greatness is the birthright and assignment of every child of God. God wants you to be great at whatever He has called you to do. If you are a teacher, He wants you to be a great teacher; if you are a sports person He wants you to be great at it. Whatever is your calling or purpose, God wants you to be outstanding. Our next step is to explore how to walk in the reality of our greatness.
To walk in greatness, you must believe that God wants you to be great because what you don’t believe, you cannot receive. To him that believes all things are possible. (Mark 9:23).
Another requirement to walk in the anointing for greatness is to have intimacy with God. The bible says we should draw near to God and He will draw near to us. Intimacy is built on a daily basis and over a period of time. You have to be consistently persistent. Since our greatness is God’s idea, then we need to draw close to Him for us to realise the greatness He has purposed for us. Divine greatness is God’s idea, so move close to Him.
Isaiah 1:19 says If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land. While we are potentially great, to actualise that potential and make it effective we need take and obey instructions from God. Deuteronomy 28:1-3 tells us that the realisation of our greatness depends on our obedience to God.
Another requirement for us to walk in the anointing for greatness is humility. The bible requires us in 1 Peter 5:6 to humble ourselves so that God will exalt us. Although people claim that they are self-made successes, nobody is self-made. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Although your destiny is great, you cannot realise it with an arrogant attitude or spirit.
Wisdom is another requirement for emergence into greatness. Proverbs 8:15-16 says by me (wisdom) kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.’ Wisdom is key to our shining and it comes through the fear of the Lord. If you don’t reverence God, you cannot be wise. The fool says in his heart, there is no God. So be wise.
You must be a person of prayer for you to show forth the divine greatness that is deposited within you. Through prayer we invite God’s divine intervention into our lives and situation. Jesus commands us to always pray and never faint Luke 18:1. I receive most of my life’s direction in my time of prayer. Prayer is the highest form of conversation. Prayer is a discipline we cannot do without.
Another requirement for greatness is discipline and sacrifice. It is said that you must sacrifice before you reign. There is a price to pay and if you cannot pay the price you cannot get the goods.
Be companion with the great. He that walks with wise shall be wise but the companion of fools shall be destroyed (proverbs 13:20). Be selective with your company because they determine how far you will go in life. You should develop relationship with people that will bring out the greatness in you.
If you take these steps, your greatness will shine forth and through.
