The writer of Hebrews reminded us of the fact that there is still a promise of entering into God’s rest and we ought to see to it that we don’t miss it. Yes it was indeed a promise to the children of Israel but they did not attain because of their unbelief. Therefore the rest of God becomes an exclusive reserve for anyone who dares to believe and choose not to walk in disobedience like the people to which it was initially promised. They missed it but we should not, we need to make every effort to enter His rest and by this we cease from all labour. The word of God is our guarantee, it is quick and powerful, with a penetrating ability to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. By this God sees and know all things, nothing can be hidden from Him.

Life Application
Entering into God’s rest is a place of peace and total surrender to God, a condition devoid of anxiety and worry. It’s a place of complete dependency on the ability of God to take care of our situations and challenges. If you believe God, you will let Him fix you and not struggle doing it yourself. God’s ability to take care of our needs is not in doubt but the challenge is do we really trust him enough to let him and not try to do it ourselves? This is the message; trust God completely, if he has promised, he will surely do it and nothing can stop him except your unbelief and disobedience to instructions.

Personal declaration
I believe and I enter into God’s rest. Today marks the end of toiling and struggling in my life in Jesus name! Amen.

A Sabbath-Rest for the People of God

Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.[a]Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,

“So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’”[b]

And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.”[c] And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.”

Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:

“Today, if you hear his voice,
    do not harden your hearts.”[d]

For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,[e]just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
