Exposing the Spirit of Mediocrity – Part 1
Hosea 4:6 – My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Mediocrity means – Average, ordinary, midway, a middling condition, poor, second rate, neither good nor bad, barely adequate, lukewarm.
Causes
Conforming to status quo – ‘if you can’t beat them join them’ mentality.
Lack of willingness to change – rigid mentality.
Fear of trying new things and failing – You are not a failure until you refuse to try again.
Loss of vision and drive – When you don’t know your destination, you will not know when you get there.
Dwelling on past victories – complacency.
Lack of role models – Nobody is an island and nobody is self-made.
Some characteristic mediocre phrases
That’s not my area.
I am not cut out for that.
Nobody has done that before.
I am not comfortable with that idea.
Everybody fails at something.
I am not a creative person.
I don’t have the funds.
I am worried about what people would think.
My friends wouldn’t like this.
The starting point for curing mediocrity is acquiring the relevant knowledge and right application of the required knowledge. It is knowledge acted upon that brings results.
