1 Corinthians 9:27 -“I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.” (Message Translation)

1 Corinthians 9:27 “I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.” (New Living Translation)

it is important to know that purpose without adequate discipline could be very fatal and end in painful failure.

This implies that it is possible for one to know his or her purpose and still fail at it for lack of discipline. Please NOTE IT IS NOT WHAT YOU KNOW THAT SAVES, DELIVERS OR PRESERVES YOU BUT WHAT YOU DO WITH WHAT YOU KNOW. So truth is useless without proper application, this is where the boys are separated from the men and the girls from the women.

This is very heavy on my heart because I have made mistakes in this area before and I still see a lot of Christians with zeal and purpose but without discipline. Without proper discipline the combination cannot work for long and all efforts will eventually end in futility.

I have seen people that God has blessed with good positions, money, opportunity, privileges, gifts and calling. They started well and began to get good returns and outcome but after a while they began to fall back on their discipline. Don’t get me wrong they know their purpose, and they have the energy and required skill for the assignment but they have done away with discipline therefore they lost their cutting and winning edge.

Remember Esau, although He was the first-born and the blessing was for him, he lost it to food. Samson missed out on some victories because he lost his discipline. Demas lost out on some major events in God’s plan for him because he loved this present world.

Are you disciplined with your time, money, gift and position etc.? Because if you are not it’s only a matter of time before you mess it all up. But I pray that you will not mess up your God given purpose!

Finally, as much as it is important that we find and live in our God given purpose, the dividends are totally dependent on how disciplined we are at all times.
