Colossians 1:27

“To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

As we are developing our understanding of Christ in us, the guarantee of our all-round completeness, I feel it is important for me to draw a line between Christ in you and you in Christ. This will help you to appreciate the reason why some Christians are up and the majority are down in the valley.

I will start by explaining what it means by the term YOU IN CHRIST. To be in Christ can be likened to being taken from one territory or country to another. Each country differs by reason of their laws, currency, culture, mannerism and way of life to mention a few. While it is true that your location has changed from A to B, it would still be necessary for you to learn and cultivate the culture and way of life of your new country.

I want you to be aware that being in Christ guarantees you potential blessings and the best quality of life that is available anywhere in the whole of God’s creation. But these potential blessings needs to be activated or else your circumstances would remain the same. For example in Physics we know that potential energy is only static and stored energy but kinetic energy is active and energy in motion. So having the potential without releasing it is equal to zero impact.

This leads to the second aspect of this piece, CHRIST IN YOU. This implies that the new kingdom to which you now belong is now resident within you. It has invaded every fibre of your being. It is like moving from China to the European Union, from a Communist regime to democratic state or vice-versa. For you to live peacefully and enjoy the benefits the state has to offer you will have to put on a new frame of mind that is in accordance with your new territory or else you would suffer unnecessarily.

In the light of the above, yes it is great and wonderful for you to be in Christ but until Christ is actually formed in you, the blessings of the kingdom will elude you. It is the level to which Christ is formed in you that determines the degree of liberty you enjoy in your outward life. The level of development of Christ in everyone is solely dependent on the individual. It is your responsibility to cultivate Christ in you and let Him have absolute pre-eminence by habitually feeding on God’s word and submitting yourself to it.

Please be aware that you cannot enjoy on the outside what you have not embraced and nurtured on the inside. Remember, it is Christ in you that is the hope of glory not just you in Christ. So, start to develop Christ consciousness within you and your outward manifestation of God’s glory will be noticeable and indisputable.
