Christ chose us and appointed us in order to go and bear fruit. John 15:16
It would be very appropriate to declare that God gives special or additional importance to bearing of fruit by a believer. He reacts sharply against any fruitlessness coming from any so called believer.
Jesus declared Himself, ‘I am the True Vine and my Father is the Husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, He taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, He purgeth it that it may bring forth much fruit’ – John 15:1&2.
Christ declared that an action is carried out if a believer does not bear fruit- such a believer shall suffer divine disconnect but the one that bears fruit shall be pruned to bear more fruit. This should leave no believer at a point of complacency but to aspire to go to a higher level after certain accomplishments in God.
Christ describes how a believer would be able to bear ‘much fruit’ in this kingdom.
‘Abide in me and I in you. As a branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except you abide in me’-John 15:4.
In Christendom, no soul can bring forth any form of fruit that will be God- glorifying except it is connected to Jesus, its Vine and Source. The continuous supply through the connection to Christ is what plays out as ‘fruit’.
Christ called Himself the True Vine (TV). In comparison, we know the benefits we gain from our TV (television) set. We get information, inspirations and even directions on a regular basis as we connect to it by watching different programs of the RIGHT channels.
In the same vein, if Christ becomes the television of your life that you connect to by watching every day to get your information, inspirations, revelations and directions through His word, then your fruit shall be ‘much’ in deed.
As we know, the Holy Spirit is the work-partner of Christ who now works on earth using the words of Christ. Now also, bearing fruit in the Spirit takes ‘living’ in the Spirit but much more ‘walking’ in the Spirit.
Galatians 5:24-26- And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lust. If we live in the spirit, let us also walk in the spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
Everyone that will walk in the Spirit must step out of the flesh and everything that gratifies it. We cannot sell our mind to the flesh and give our heart to the Spirit. We give everything to the Spirit and that is when He gains the conducive environment needed to infill a believer to produce the required and desired results.
This living in the Spirit can also be compared with our modes of living in our homes. Some of us spend 12 hours at home, and out of those 12 hours, we sleep (are inactive) for 8 hours, get dressed for 1 hour, watch the news for 1 hour, and also do some minor things for the rest of the hours, having no time to read the bible nor pray. Though we claim to live in the house, but in the actual sense of it, we don’t.
Immediately we step out, we begin to use our thoughts and take actions. Some of us even spend as much as 12 hours in the office barely affording ourselves the period for a break.
We see that we utilize more of our intellect and our functional parts when we leave our ‘so called’ home. We are active, we seek opportunities, we explore, we work, rub minds with others, we just keep taking actions when we walk out of our home.
This we can compare with walking in the Spirit. We accomplish a great deal when we leave our homes. We rub minds with the Holy Spirit so as for Him to direct us in our daily endeavours. He teaches us to explore the spiritual world so we may produce the best physical results. When we walk in the Spirit, we apply ourselves by taking constructive actions from the instruction given by the Spirit.
So, as we live in the Spirit, let us put more of our emphasis on walking in the Spirit (taking actions by the leadings of the Spirit) and by so doing, we would lose count of the abundant fruit that we would produce.
