Joy is defined as “extreme gladness”. It is also defined as “great happiness”. It is an emotional outburst of relaxation that puts a person in an ecstatic mode. In a joyful state a person oozes confidence and has a sense/aura of assurance and confirmed satisfaction.
Joy is usually defined alongside happiness but there is a difference. Happiness is a lower state in comparison to joy. To be happy means to be feeling, showing or causing pleasure. But Joy is VERY intense happiness. This is the state God wants us to be.
John 15:11, 12 –
“These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you.”
Jesus wants you to have His joy. He wants you to have the state of heart that kept him going and he mentioned amidst other things that loving others is a key to keeping your joy-tank full at all times. When you bring joy to another person’s life, your joy escalates to higher levels. Why? Well it’s because you reap what you sow, in other words make others happy and you will remain happy.
Joy also comes from your interaction with the Word of God. Reading, studying and meditating on the God’s word usually produces a deep understanding in you that makes you joyful. Your mind gets divine information and your spirit is fed. This keeps your mind focused only on the future in spite of the prevailing pain or trials you are going through.
Hebrews 12:2-
Looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
In the midst of trials, you are strengthened by what you know-1Peter 1: 6-8

Joy provokes praise and keeps you in a mode of expectancy. Maintain your joy no matter what. Remember the enemy desires to steal, kill and destroy it because “it” probably knows that is your strength.

For further study:
Nehemiah 8:10b …For the joy of the Lord is your strength…

Personal declaration
I will not allow the enemy to steal, kill or destroy my joy.

Questions for you to reflect on
Name the things that try to steal, kill or destroy your joy?
How do intend to overcome them?
