Awareness of the Glory

Genesis 28:16 – Then Jacob woke up and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it. (New Living Translation)

To be aware means to have knowledge of the existence of something or to be conscious of something. It has been said that that what you do not know cannot kill you but this is untrue because what you do not know can kill you and many are dying daily on that basis. The Bible declares in Hosea 4:6 that God’s people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. God takes ignorance seriously because of the painful results that come with it.

We need an understanding of the glory of God in order to draw the intended benefits or else we will be like Jacob who was not conscious that the glory of God was right where he was. But that will not be your portion in Jesus’ name.

Being aware of the glory requires us to look both inward and outward. Look inwards by searching our hearts for what the Lord is saying right now. You search your heart by praying in the Holy Spirit and listening to God’s leading. God leads us through our human spirit by impressing things in our hearts. The Bible says, ‘The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly’ (Proverbs 20:27). Your inner man is the real you and everything God wants to get across to us starts from the spirit. Remember God is a spirit and those that must worship must worship Him in spirit and in truth. So listen to God when you are fellowshipping with Him and don’t do all the talking.

The second way to be aware of the glory of God is by looking outwards. In 1 Samuel 4:21 we see that when the Ark of God was taken from Israel it was a sign that things were out of order. The Bible says the path of the just is like a shining light that shines more and more unto the perfect day (Proverbs 4:18). If you observe that there is a continuous decline in the quality of your life, please note I said continuous decline not momentary, then you need to go back to the drawing board and ask God what steps to take. I didn’t say ask God why, I said ask God what to do. Many get angry with God and ask several questions in rage only to find out that their problem still persists. You cannot kick against your source and live in the glory so take caution and never lose your connection with God.

Still on looking outwards, it is possible that you need to make some inconvenient adjustments; for example changing your circle of friends, assessing your understanding and attitude towards the glory and so on. Furthermore, you must be careful not to deal with God by formula because He deals in relationships not formula. The idea of approaching God solely for the purpose of getting things when things are tough is not the acceptable way. Don’t get me wrong, He will be merciful and bring you out of the jam but you will soon find yourself in that situation again. So grow a relationship with God and you will find yourself walking and living in the full blast of His Glory. Remember Christ is in you, the glory is in you so all you have to do is cultivate God’s presence and develop in the glory.
