7 Steps To Benefiting From Mentoring or Pastoral Guidance – 5
Step 5 – Honour and bless your Mentor
Matthew 10:41 – He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
It is important for you know that the honour you give to your mentor or pastor returns back to you in the form of the grace and anointing on him. In 1 Samuel 9:6-8, we see that Elisha was respected, reverenced and called upon because of the man he had served and honoured – Elijah. We also see, Philippians 4:15-19, how the Philippians were able to enter into the same grace that Apostle Paul carried because of their sowing into his life and ministry.
I feel it is important for me to clarify that you do not buy the anointing with gifts and money, but you position yourself for an upward movement in your own life. It is what you value from which you draw virtue. What you value you protect, nurture and invest in. I have met a lot of people who tell me I am their mentor but when we need them to volunteer themselves or their resources they are missing in action – especially when it is not a centre stage assignment! Some even believe it is the duty of their mentor to pay their bills and finance them as a reward for their loyalty. Please be aware that mentoring should not be used as an avenue to take advantage of someone but to serve and be developed into greatness.
Some may say that some have served and were left with nothing in the end. While I am aware that there are bad leaders all the same the integrity of your heart will deliver you in the day of crisis. Furthermore, you will at least have learnt how not to do things and you will become a better person for it.
