7 Steps To Benefitting From Mentoring or Pastoral Guidance – 1
Step 1 – Submission and Humility
1 Peter 5:5 –Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.
There are three important levels of submission that will help you to access and enjoy the blessings of God. The first is submission to God, the second is submission to God’s ordained leaders and the third is submission to fellow Christians. These three go a long way in helping every child of God to move rapidly to operate on a new level of blessing. For example, if you do not submit to God you automatically submit to the devil and bring curses rather than blessings on yourself. If you don’t submit to your man of God you cannot carry and enjoy the grace of God on His life. God has placed the grace on him to empower and prosper you but if you do not honour him from your heart you will not be able to connect with his spirit and you will end up forfeiting the blessing of God.
You also need to submit to other believers; in particular people that are going in the same direction as you and are part of the same assignment because neither you nor they know it all. God has put some abilities in all of us that set us apart; when we work together it opens up a new level of opportunity and grace that benefits each party. Be humble enough to know the area where you need others and master your area of grace in order to be a blessing to others around you.
That said, my main focus at this stage is to point out to you that God will not do anything on earth without first informing His prophets and that includes your promotion. This is one of the major reasons why it is a must for you to submit and be humble towards your man of God (mentor) both in his presence and absence.
How do I humble myself? See him or her as God-sent for and to you for your liberation and prosperity. Do not see him or her as your equal or colleague. Receive him or her as your man of God and take what he or she tells you seriously and as a word from the Lord to you.
